Do I Have To Pay For Tokens?

This is a question we still get every once in a while, so we are going to completely explain the reason for the token system along with how and why it works the way it does.

Why Tokens?

Back in September of 2008 is when we first launched the token system. The main reason why is simply because of the cheating that was happening each month with the IP based system we were using at that time. We had to be sure there could be absolutely no proxy voting or cheating on our site and after researching all the options a token based system was the best solution. This leads us to the main question of this post...

Do I Have To Pay For Tokens?

The simple answer to this question is that you DON'T have to pay for tokens to vote for any of the models on our website! Actually, when you first register as a token user, you are immediately given 5 free tokens and then every day 3 more free tokens are deposited into your account! So, every month you are given 90 FREE tokens that you can use anyway you would like!

Just be sure to use all of your tokens before the last night of each month because at 3am EST on the 1st of each month ALL tokens from ALL voter's accounts will be deleted. This means that every single MMU voter will have zero tokens to start each month.

How Much Money Do You Make Selling Tokens?

You do have the option to buy additional tokens starting at just $1.00 and some people think we make tons of money selling tokens so we wanted to discuss the money we make from the tokens people do buy.

Miss MySpace USA spends roughly $5,000 a month in overhead and operating expenses to keep the business running. To design our site, and develop the software, we incurred costs over $20,000, plus the monthly sever costs and salary necessary to sustain such a site. With the limited revenue provided by advertising, it's very expensive for us to keep MMU running. The revenue we bring in from token orders is used to cover the costs necessary to keep our website up and running and give cash prizes to the winning models each month.

To give you another perspective on the voting and tokens... we have many token voters all getting 90 free tokens each and every month. Just last month alone (October 2009) we had 700 new voter registrations. If all 700 voters used their 90 free tokens last month there would have been over 60,000 votes on the site! All of the votes for the top 10 models last month added together was less than 40,000 votes. So you can see it is very possible with the number of token voters we have, that just with their free tokens we may not make much money at all from token sales.
